I am an integrative, relational counsellor,
working face to face and online
Hi, I'm Jude
Starting counselling can bring up a mixture of emotions and that’s quite natural.
I offer a non-judgemental space in which feelings and experiences can be explored safely.
My style of therapy is a combination of person centred theory and psychotherapy.
I work hard to create a safe and respectful space in which my clients feel welcome, heard and supported.
Through my client work and as a result of my personal experiences, I have a special interest in working with neurodiversity.
In particular, adult dyslexia, autism and ADHD,
its impact in childhood, the act of masking and how it impacts on adult identity and relationships.
During my counselling training I was diagnosed as dyslexic and I recognise some of the difficulties that can be experienced when trying to navigate a mostly neuro-typical world.
Therapy
Person centred theory forms the foundation of my work, along with aspects of psychodynamic theory.
Working from a person centred perspective, the 3 core conditions of empathy, unconditional positive regard and genuineness offer a safe supportive starting point, upon which we can build a relationship based on trust and respect.
From within the security of the therapeutic relationship we can work together to explore what has brought you to counselling.
This place of growing trust becomes the space within which you can explore your experiences and express your emotions without fear of judgement or shame.
Learning to talk openly about what we are struggling with can feel difficult, but it is an important step towards understanding how we can move forward.
Additionally, working psychodynamically, we may explore thoughts and feelings regarding early relationships, behaviour patterns, self-talk, communication styles and defence mechanisms. The gentle exploration of which can offer insight, perspective and emotional release.
There may be behaviour patterns or defence mechanisms, resulting from early life experiences, that are subconsciously holding us in a younger mindset and no longer align with who we feel we are or wish to be.
By acknowledging and talking about the experiences and associated behaviours and by feeling the emotions relating to them in a safe therapeutic relationship, we can work to release the feelings and create new more adaptive coping mechanisms and ways of relating to others.
